Virginie Bobin lädt die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer ein, verschiedene Arbeitsmethoden mit Übersetzungen und Sprachen zu untersuchen und zu erproben - aus poetischen, künstlerischen und politi-schen Perspektiven. Während Übersetzung oft als Instrument der Dominanz und Gewalt eingesetzt wurde, werden wir uns mit der Arbeit von Philosoph*innen, Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen beschäftigen, die Übersetzung als eine kontinuierliche Arbeit gegenseitiger Zuneigung, eine Geste der Ansprache und Gastfreundschaft sehen, an der mehrere Körper beteiligt sind. Wir werden uns Barbara Cassins Konzeption von les intraduisibles zuwenden - nicht, dass wir nicht übersetzen könnten, aber wir hören nie auf zu übersetzen, und wir werden mit verschiedenen Übersetzungstaktiken spielen, die Opazität und Fragiliät begünstigen. Wir werden über den Raum der geschriebenen Seite hinausblicken, um durch Übersetzung, Fehlübersetzung und der Unübersetzbarkeit Formen des Zuhörens und Ausführens zu üben.
Virginie Bobin arbeitet an der Schnittstelle zwischen Forschung, kuratorischer und redaktioneller Praxis, Pädagogik und Übersetzung. Sie arbeitet mit einer feministischen Ethik der Fürsorge, Freundschaft und Zusammenarbeit. Zurzeit ist sie Kandidatin für das Doktorat in künstlerischer Forschung an der Akademie für angewandte Künste in Wien. Im Jahr 2018 gründete sie zusammen mit Victorine Grataloup die kuratorische und redaktionelle Plattform QALQALAH ةلقلق . Von 2009-2018 arbeitete sie für Villa Vassilieff, Bétonsalon - Zentrum für Kunst und Forschung, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Manifesta Journal, Les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers und Performa. Dadruch, dass sie sich von von bezahlten institu-tioneller Positionen zurückzog, konnte sie mit ihrem Partner, ihrer Tochter, einer Katze und zwei Hühnern in eine ländliche Gegend ziehen.

Virginie Bobin invite les participants à examiner et expérimenter différentes façons de travailler avec la traduction et les langues, sous des angles poétique, artistique et politique. Alors que la traduction a souvent été utilisée comme un instrument de domination et de violence, nous nous pencherons sur le travail de philosophes, d’artistes et d’activistes qui conçoivent la traduction comme un travail permanent d’affection mutuelle, un geste de révérence et d’hospitalité qui englobe des corps multiples. En adoptant le concept de Barbara Cassin, dans ses intraduisibles – non pas ce que nous ne pouvons traduire, mais plutôt ce que nous ne cessons jamais de traduire, nous jouerons avec diverses tactiques de la traduction, qui favorisent l’opacité et la fragilité. Nous irons au-delà de l’espace de la page écrite, afin de nous exercer à l’art de l’écoute et de l’expérimentation grâce à la traduction, la trahison et la détraduction.
Virginie Bobin travaille à la croisée des chemins entre recherche, mission de conservation et pra- tique rédactionnelle, pédagogie et traduction. Elle aspire à travailler selon une éthique féministe, dans l’appréciation, l’amitié et la collaboration. Elle est actuellement candidate au doctorat en pratique de recherche artistique à l’Acadmie des Beaux-Arts de Vienne. En 2018, elle co-fonde, avec Victorine Gra- taloup, la plateforme curatoriale et éditoriale QALQALAH ةلقلق . Entre 2009 et 2018, elle travaille pour Villa Vassilieff, le centre d’art et de recherche Bétonsalon, le centre d’art contemporain Witte de With, Manifesta Journal, les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers et Performa. Délaisser les positions institutionnelles lui a permis de s’installer la campagne, avec son partenaire, leur fille, un chat et deux poules.

Virginie Bobin invites participants to examine and perform different ways of working with translation and languages from poetic, artistic and political perspectives. While translation has often been used as a tool of domination and violence, we will engage with the work of philosophers, artists and activists who approach translation as an ongoing labor of mutual affection, a gesture of address and hospitality that involves multiple bodies. Embracing Barbara Cassin's conception of les intraduisibles — not that that we cannot translate, but that that we never cease to translate, we will play with different tactics of translation that favor opacity and fragility. We will look beyond the space of the written page to exercize modalities of listening and performing via translation, mistranslation and untranslation.
Virginie Bobin works at the crossroads between research, curatorial and editorial practices, pedagogy and translation. She strives to work with a feminist ethics of care, friendship and collaboration. She is currently a candidate at the PhD-in-practice in Artistic Research at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. In . ةلقلق she co-founded with Victorine Grataloup the curatorial and editorial platform QALQALAH ,2018 Between 2009-2018, she worked for Villa Vassilieff, Bétonsalon – Center for Art and Research, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Manifesta Journal, Les Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers and Performa. Leaving paid institutional positions allowed her to move to a rural area with her parnter, their daughter, a cat and two chicken.

The defining point is to reach the earth, to touch its ground. This holds for meteorites and distinguishes them from other asteroids as comets. Does this hold for contemporary artists: To connect with the earth? And what the hell is the earth?
The Master Symposium 2021 discusses in lectures and workshops the situation of today’s artistic production under the aspect of materialities which define a connection or a grounding in a system like the earth/ with something. Therefore, we are concentrating on relations between inside and outside of a system, and strategies to convert them, and to uncover or to produce a shell that connects like an interface. The Aktionsraum in the Toni-Areal will also be platform to meet each other.
About the lecturers:
Judith Welter (*1980) is a curator. She studied art history, Spanish literature and Religious Studies at the University of Bern. In 2014, she completed her PhD on the role of rumors and anecdotes in contemporary. From 2015 to 2021 she has been director of the Kunsthaus Glarus. From 2004 to 2015 she worked for the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich where from 2012 on she was the Collection Curator. Since 2016 she has been teaching at different universities. From 2016-2021 she was the jury president for the Kiefer Hablitzel I Göhner Kunstpreis. Since 2015 she is co-editor of the online magazine for art criticism Brand-New-Life.
Recent curated solo exhibitions include Puppies Puppies (Jade Kuriki Olivo) (2021), Caroline Bachmann, Jan Vorisek (2020) Sam Pulitzer (2019), Bonnie Camplin (2018), Marta Riniker-Radich (2018), Birgit Megerle (2017) and Shana Moulton (2016). Curated group exhibitions include Tourism (2021, in collaboration with Stadgalerie Bern, Luca Beeler and Richard Sides), Im Volksgarten (2021), Sie sagen, wo Rauch ist ist auch Feuer (2017, in collaboration with Kunsthalle Bern), Unruly Relations, 2016, Toys Redux, (2015).
Nils Röller is a Professor for Theory at the Department of Fine Arts. In his practice he explores contemporary poetic strategies (romanform.ch). Currently he prepares a Research Project on Visual Philosophy (www.iconographyofphilosophy). 2019 NR curated the exhibition "Zellenleben" and the symposion "Abständiges" at the Kunstraum Kreuzlingen as part of this Research.

The Uncanny Ocean focuses on one aspect of the ocean – how little we know of it.
They say we know more about outer space than the bottom of the sea. This day of events takes this unknowability of the ocean as a means with which to think about the aquatic as a material, a medium, exploring its mystery, and its rich and complex history of migration, trade, prospecting, and violence. Thinking about its murky depths, other creatures underwater and how we might start from the ocean to think of spells, of time out of joint, time travel, visionary fiction and other possible worlds.

Uncanny Ocean se concentre sur un aspect de l'océan - le peu que nous en savons.
On dit qu’on en sait plus sur l'espace extra-atmosphérique que sur le fond de l’océan. Cette journée d'événements prend cette inconnaissabilité de l'océan comme un moyen de penser l'aquatique comme un matériau, un médium, pour en explorer le mystère et l’histoire, riche et complexe, composée de migration, de commerce, de prospection et de violence. Nous permettre de penser à ses profondeurs obscures, à d'autres créatures sous-marines et à la façon dont nous pourrions partir de l'océan pour penser aux sorts, au temps désarticulé, au voyage dans le temps, à la fiction visionnaire et à d'autres mondes possibles.

Frantz Fanon Critical Legacy
From the alienation of the individual to the emancipation of practices
Psychiatrist, essayist, theorist, and Algerian independence activist, Frantz Fanon (born in Fort-de-France in 1925, died in Bethesda in 1961) is a major figure of anti-colonial theory. From the decolonisation of the self, developed in Black Skin, White Masks, to the use of violence in The Wretched of The Earth, he fought against the conditions of a subaltern existence to go beyond race and colonial systems. The symposium seeks to open a conversational space, taking up Fanon’s attitude of refusal to consider contemporary art practices, structures, and theories.
In an effort to question the structures of contemporary society and the artistic field, lecturers share tools to become “conscious of [our] unconscious”, asking if the consciousness of structures instigates a renewal of thoughts and forms. The three conversation sessions are oriented around theories (counter-narratives), practices (regarding artists’ production), and means of action (by creating spaces, time and methodologies).

In Search of UIQ
Graeme Thomson & Silvia Maglioni, HDV, 72' (F/IT/UK 2013)
The film unfolds the story of Félix Guattari’s lost science-fiction screenplay, "Un Amour d’UIQ". Conceived during the 1980s, this unmade film imagines the discovery of the Infra-quark Universe (UIQ), a bacterial sample which propagates through viral contamination. This alien intelligence, which is coming from a parallel dimension, falls in love with one of its human hosts, an event which has striking effects for the whole planet on both technology and human subjectivity. Slipping between documentary, fiction and essay, through the deployment of video and sound archives, letters and other documents that are enmeshed in a series of fabulations and spectral re-enactments, In Search of UIQ explores what Guattari's cinema of the Infra-quark might have been (and may still become) in relation to his thought and clinical practice and considers its implications in terms of the wider social and political transformations both of its own time and of the present moment. Common Birds

Refusing to pay for the debt, two Athenians decide to leave their city. Guided by mysterious crow calls, they wonder through a desolate urban landscape until they reach a zone of passage and are spirited to an ancient forest, the Realm of the Birds. Here they meet the Hoopoe, half-bird half-woman, who tells them how the birds live by sharing their resources amid the magical forces of the forest. However, one of the men has other plans for the birds. Though far from easy, the inter-species encounter will be illuminating for all. Some 2,500 years after it was written, an experimental adaptation of Aristophanes’ "The Birds". Between a contemporary Athens marked by crisis and the forest of La Gomera, Ancient Greek and Silbo (an endangered whistled language that forms part of a long tradition of resistance), comes a tale of flight, loss and re-enchantment in a space of refuge where new alliances can emerge between different species, temporalities and languages. Graeme Thomson & Silvia Maglioni are artists and filmmakers interested in the porous border between fiction and documentary, cinema and the visual arts. The artists often make use of cinema in expanded form to reactivate lost or forgotten archives and histories and to create new modes of collective vision and engagement with contemporary thought and politics. Their practice includes the creation of short and feature films, exhibitions, sound works, film-performances, radio shows, vernacular technologies and books. Their films include “Wolkengestalt” (2007), “Facs of Life” (2009), “Through the Letterbox” (2009-ongoing), “In Search of UIQ” (2013), “Blind Data” (2013), “Disappear One” (2015), “Underwritten by Shadows Still” (2017) and “Common Birds” (2019). Their work has been presented, screened and installed worldwide at international film festivals, museums and art spaces.
