Mobility, migration, and relocation are among the basic experiences that shape our society today. The workshop begins with a simple question: What would you take with you if you had to go?
We will discuss the relationship between displaced objects and the owner in the context of forced migration. Students are asked to reflect on their expectations, emotions, and questions that the objects trigger when kept as treasures.
The results of the workshop will be presented during the symposium "Contemporary Art from Afghanistan" at the Bern University of the Arts" (HKB) on November 4th, 2022, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the large auditorium, Fellerstrasse 11 CH-3027 Bern.
The program and more information about the symposium can be found at this link: Contemporary Art from Afghanistan
Jeanno Gaussi is a Berlin based mixed media artist.
Using a narrative concept as a starting point, she creates intimate installations about memory and transcendence. Her work crosses a variety of media, including video, photography, objects, and texts. A central theme of her practice is the exploration of the places where she has worked, traveled, and experienced meaningful encounters. With and through these encounters, her work engages questions of remembrance, the search for identity, and the social and cultural processes associated with them.
Jeanno Gaussi was one of the participating artists at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel and Kabul. Gaussi started her art career as a video and film artist and her short films were internationally shown in several festivals including International Film Festival Clermont Ferrand, France, Kara Film Festival, Pakistan, the International Film Festival Leipzig, Germany among many others.
This workshop will be held in English.
