Cultural Symptoms
The politics of the field of art as place of work
The Cultural Symptoms workshop will explore the politics of the field of art as a place of work. What does it mean to be a cultural worker nowadays, what does it mean to be a gendered artist and how much precarity can art take, are part of the thematic of the workshop. Our exploration around business and art, will attempt to create ‘performative acts’, in and out of the school, personal or collective.
The Cultural Symptoms project aims to become an open artistic platform. As a collective artistic response to the cultural setting of today, we use the figure of the horse, (alogo in greek, stemming from a-logos, the one without logic). Therefore we explore how we, as cultural workers, we participate in our own torture, how we construct and enjoy the myths of the ‘ideal artist’, while we try to problematize those hegemonic structures, called “the art world”, in terms of both its materiality and its discourse.
